Iowa’s Leitenant Governor visits Siouxland today. 

Hawarden-native Adam Gregg will be attending the Governor’s Volunteer Award Ceremony at Buena Vista University at two this afternoon.    

A man accused of stabbing his roommate to death in Sioux City last year has been convicted.

Author Jim Schaap talks with Siouxland Public Media's Mark Munger about a Dutch resistance fighter in who defied the Nazies WWII. Diet Eman died last week.  Schaap worked with Eman on her biography. 

We talk with the president of Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA about a three million dollar gift that will help the school and the community work on rural economic projects and issues.

Plymouth County Jail

A northwest Iowa woman accused of lying about killing her husband has entered a plea.  

Plymouth County District Court records say 35-year-old Becky Hebert, of rural Akron, entered a written Alford plea to a misdemeanor charge of interference with official acts.

In an Alford plea, a person doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a likely conviction.

Her sentencing has not been scheduled.

She had originally been charged with second-degree murder for the Oct. 6, 2017, shooting death of 40-year-old Jeremy Hebert.

The Documentary, "Growing Magic: The Mickey Mouse Cornfield Story," was written and produced by Buena Vista digital media students. It tells the story of a card formed in a cornfield for Mickey Mouse's birthday in the year of 1988.

The documentary was worked on for the past three years and upon it's premiere, Siouxland Public Media spoke with teacher and Disney fanatic, Jerry Johnson. Siouxland Public Media also had the chance to speak with two of his students, Olivia Weisler and Mason Mcgrew. They discuss parts of the story and share details of the production.

Buena Vista University Uses Grant to Improve STEM Edcuation

A generous couple has given Buena Vista University in Storm Lake a $500,000 endowment to help the school prepare education students to teach in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Siouxland Public Media’s Mary Hartnett has more.    :44

As part of the endowment's launch, students were able to experience BVU’s first-ever STEM classroom this fall semester. Assistant professor of education Dr. John Bedward says the lab and new curriculum are giving students real-life, hands-on experience.
