There are loads of events this weekend, Fall Fest, Sioux City Chamber Music are happening plus LAMB and Sioux City Community Theatre both have productions running. You can check out a guitar doc at the National Music Museum, Witchita harp (harmonica) player Dustin Arbuckle plays Sioux City in his 4th different band and Sioux City Rockestra puts on a couple of shows at The Marquee.

Comedian, MC, thespian and now, Cultural Continuum Co-host, Garie Lewis (AKA Mud Man) helps out SPM's Steve Smith for a jam-packed edition of Cultural Continuum. Lewis will be portraying Mud Man at this weekend's Kingdome of Riverssance Festival. Also happening this week is the Sioux City International Film Festival, and fall theater starts cranking up with Sioux City Community Theatre this Week and LAMB Arts Regional Theatre opening thier new season next Friday.

Iowa Senate Democrats called today for Republican Governor Kim Reynolds to quickly sign an executive order allowing felons to vote once they have completed their sentences.  Reynolds has made a constitutional amendment restoring felon voter rights a top priority for two years. But, Senate Republicans have rejected her proposals. Against a backdrop of protests over racial injustice following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Reynolds this month promised to sign an executive order.  Iowa is the only state that disenfranchises all felons.

The Sioux City Public Museum, the Sioux City Art Center, and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center have all announced plans today to reopen to the public on July 7. 

All of the facilities had been closed since March due to COVID-19 concerns.

Each will have new hand sanitizing stations and will require social distancing. Facility personnel will be required to wear face masks. Visitors are also encouraged to wear masks.

The Sioux City International Film Festival and the 16th Annual Kingdom of Riverssance are both happening this weekend in and around your usual assortment of theater, art and live music. Plus Brioux City hosts the 2nd annual Briouxfest.

A new art exhibit in Sioux City asks a simple question on the surface, “What does it mean to be American?” 

This rare art initiative showcases a diverse dialogue for people living in Siouxland.

“Looking for America: Siouxland” features works by a dozen artists at the Betty Strong Encounter Center.

The pieces include photos, mixed media, graphic design.   

"It’s a pig.”

“Whole Hog” by Rich Yates shows parts of the animal with words sometimes used to describe others,  like “them”, “different”, “deviant” and “strange.”

Coming up on The Exchange, we talk with Woodbury County Auditor Pat Gill about next week’s primary election.

Gill also addresses new changes in Iowa’s voter ID law.  

Also, a new exhibit at the SC Art Center’s hands-on gallery and more. 

We will learn about a new effort to understand the immigrant experience in Siouxland and learn about the legacy of a lynching that took place in Omaha a century ago.

We will preview Riverssance which is coming up this weekend in Riverside Park.
