This week on The Exchange, Tuesday was the International Day of the World Indigenous Peoples. A summit highlighting Native Nation sovereignty and environmental justice took place at Metro Community College in Omaha. We have a report.

We also learn about an effort among local native American tribes to reconnect growing preparing and eating food with their culture. There is a community garden that is part of the Three Sisters Project in Macy, Nebraska. We speak with Iowa State University assistant professor Christina Gish Hill. Gish Hill focuses her research on American Indian/Native cultures of the Northern Plains and Midwest. She talks about her work on the Three Sisters Project.

Also, we talk world-renowned author and expert in leadership DJ Vanas about his new book, The Warrior Within.

Also, we have an update from Heartland Counseling Services about its work training police officers to assist people with mental illness and other issues. We talk with Heartland's Jennifer Hart.
And we talk with Patrick Hicks, a writer-in-residence at Augustana University in Sioux Falls. He is co-editor of forthcoming book of essays about the growth and history of Sioux Falls. The book is called City of Hustle and it comes out in October.
