City Council will defer the 3rdand final reading of the ordinance repealing Sioux City’s pit bull ban.”. A final vote will be made by the Council after the Animal Control Chapters of the City Code have been reviewed and further revised. The first reading on a revision to these chapters will be heard on Monday, November 4.
Iowans will go to the polls next week for school and local government elections. It’s the first time these races are happening at the same time.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says he hopes combining these races into one election will boost voter turnout. It typically fails to exceed 15 percent for local elections.
“Long term we should be up there at 50 percent or more. Our schools and our cities are very important when you look at the role and impact they have on education decisions and all the local services.”
It’s also the first statewide election with Iowa’s new voter ID law in full effect. Voters can contact their county auditor for information if they’re not sure what to bring to the polls.
There is some good news for motorists who frequently drive on U.S. Highway 75 north of Sioux City. The Sioux City Journal reports that Northbound traffic between Sioux City and Hinton will be shifted onto the rebuilt northbound lanes on Friday, weather permitting.
Only one lane of traffic on each side of the highway will be open during the transition, said Dakin Schultz, Iowa Department of Transportation District 3 transportation planner
