Veterans Day in Sioux City, Sen. Klobuchar Visits NW Iowa

111119 304

Today is veterans day and vets, city and county officials met this morning at the Woodbury County Courthouse to pay tribute.   Mary Jordan is the director of the Sioux City Vet Center.  Jordan told the group of around 125 people that her organization serves combat veterans, and helps them readjust to civilian life.

Maybe it’s a mental health condition, specifically trauma-related we work with and those that have experienced military sexual trauma as well. We work with them in individual and group settings, we work with them to help find jobs.  We work on outreach, and communicating with our community partners to get services met.

The 2017 census numbers show there are more than 58 hundred veterans in Woodbury County.

Sanders and Minnesota US Senator Amy Klobuchar campaigned in northwest Iowa this weekend.

On Saturday morning, Klobuchar joined a caucus training session at the Sioux City Public Library.

At the event, Klobuchar said she wanted to help Iowa farmers and ethanol producers who have struggled because of the ongoing trade war with China and ethanol waivers to oil refiners. She says those two factors have led more farmers to file for bankruptcy.

"Which made it easier for farmers to go into bankruptcy.  We just did that this year, so they could keep operating their farms.  Needless to say, the president didn’t do a signing ceremony about it.”

Klobuchar says, if elected, she would like to focus on creating affordable health care and lower prescription drug prices, immigration reform, and climate change.
