Veteran Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott to Run Again, Gov. Reynolds Speaks Out on RFS Waivers

082719 404a

Bob Scott announced today that he will make another run for mayor of Sioux City.

Scott will have served 15 years as mayor of Sioux City as of 2020.  So far, there is one other mayoral candidate.  Former ESL teacher Maria Rundquist, an instructor for Northeast Community College who runs a translation business, is the only other mayoral candidate besides Scott who has filed nomination papers so far, according to the Sioux City Clerk's Office.

Scott and council member Rhonda Capron are the only two incumbents up for re-election.  She has since filed nomination papers, as well as Michael Bayala, an accountant, and Rosario Perez, Jr., a local hip-hop artist also known as Rev. Because there are three candidates in that city council race, the county auditor’s office says there will be a primary on October 8thto narrow the field.  The filing deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Midwest governors are planning a trip to Washington, D.C. to talk with President Trump about restoring billions of gallons of ethanol demand.  The Environmental Protection Agency exempted 31 oil refineries from blending ethanol with gasoline to meet the requirements of federal law.  An ethanol plant in Merrill, just outside of Sioux City, has been shut down for four weeks because of the exemptions.  And another company that owns six plants in Iowa has cut its company-wide ethanol output.

The Iowa Corn Growers Association issued a statement this morning, saying farmers are “fed up” with President Trump’s “broken promises.”
