Democratic Presidential Amy Klobuchar campaigned in northwest Iowa this weekend.
On Saturday morning, the US Senator from Minnesota joined a caucus training session at the Sioux City Public Library.
At the event, Klobuchar said she wanted to help Iowa farmers and ethanol producers who have struggled because of the ongoing trade war with China and ethanol waivers to oil refiners. Those changes have led some farmers to file for bankruptcy.
“I led the bill on the Democratic side with Senator Grassley who led it on the Republican side, and in fact, we passed the law, which made it easier for farmers to go into bankruptcy. We just did that this year, so they could keep operating their farms.”
Klobuchar says, if elected, she would focus on creating affordable health care and lower prescription drug prices, immigration reform, and climate change.
Today is Veterans Day and vets, city and county officials met this morning at the Woodbury County Courthouse to pay tribute. Mary Jordan is the director of the Sioux City Vet Center. Jordan told the group of around 125 people that her organization serves combat veterans, and helps them readjust to civilian life.
"We work with them in individual and group settings, we work with them to help find jobs."
The 2017 census numbers show there are more than 58 hundred veterans in Woodbury County.
