A retired Sioux City Police Department officer announced today he will seek one of three Woodbury County Board of Supervisors seats in November.

Forty-two-year-old Kevin McCormick will run as a Democrat for the District 1 seat. McCormick was a first-year police officer, when he was shot in the head during a routine traffic stop in 2012, then returned to work within two weeks.

The District 1 seat is held by Keith Radig, a Republican from Sioux City. Radig is a former Sioux City Councilman who unseated incumbent Democrat Jackie Smith in November 2016.  McCormick is a Woodbury County and Sioux City native, a Briar Cliff University graduate and a third-generation law enforcement officer.

Former Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor resigned his seat after residency questions prompted the county's top elections official to revoke Taylor's voter registration.

Sioux City Democratic state Rep. Tim Kacena says he is running for the District 2 seat as well. Kacena has said he will seek re-election this year.  The person who wins the special election will fill out the rest of Taylor’s four-year term, which runs through the end of 2022.
