The director of the Iowa Department of Transportation is resigning at the request of the governor.
A statement from Governor Kim Reynolds’ office says she, quote, “has decided to seek a change in leadership as she continues to build her administration.”
Reynolds appointed Mark Lowe to the top transportation job in 2017 when she became governor. Lowe worked for the D-O-T for nearly a decade before that.
Lowe’s resignation letter doesn’t provide any details about why the governor asked him to leave. His resignation is effective January tenth.
With economic growth in Iowa now forecast to be stronger than expected, the state government is projected for the first time to collect more than $8 billion in net general-fund tax receipts this fiscal year.
The three members of the state’s Revenue Estimating Conference yesterday bumped up their October estimate for state revenue growth by $48.5 million, bringing their fiscal 2020 expectations for tax collections to nearly $8.015 billion dollars— a 2 percent increase that tops the last fiscal year.
