SD Teacher Pay

On the final day of the legislative session, South Dakota lawmakers on Friday approved small raises for teachers and health care providers.  Siouxland Public Media’s Mary Hartnett has this report.

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports that both chambers of the Legislature advanced 0.3 percent boosts in funding for teachers and health care providers, as well as an increase for state employees to help cover health insurance.  The raises come following the emergence of lower than expected revenues.  Gov. Dennis Daugaard proposed a one percent increase to the three groups in December, but took the plan off the table when revenue estimates came out $27.8 million dollars lower than expected.  The South Dakota Education Association said educators were pleased to see lawmakers approve teacher pay hikes after they'd considered keeping salaries flat. Gov. Daugaard says he plans to sign the bill.  For Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.
