Snow and Ice on the Way for Thanksgiving in Siouxland

112519 304

The weather this Thanksgiving week is shaping up to be a turkey.  The whole Siouxland area will under either a Winter Storm Warning starting tomorrow morning.

“Looks like a pretty decent storm at this point.  We’ll begin to that move into the Sioux City tomorrow afternoon Tuesday.  The snow will pick up through the evening.  The heaviest after 6 pm and continue into early Wednesday morning.”

That’s Jim Murray,  a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.  He says Sioux City could see between five and eight inches of snow and parts of western and southern Nebraska up to a foot.

Murray says you often see the first winter storm at the end of November or the beginning of December.

“The biggest thing is this is occurring during this holiday week so it causes some extra problems.”

Murray says we could see more snow on Thanksgiving Day and his office is tracking another storm for later this week into Saturday that could “cause a lot of problems”.

Murray says it’s too early to tell if we’ll have ice, snow or rain.

Members of the Sioux City council are expected to vote for a third and final time later today whether to repeal a long-time citywide ban on pit bulls and pit bull mixes.

The City of Maquoketa in eastern Iowa ended its ban last week. It adopted an ordinance that covers vicious animals in general.
