Former Massachusetts Governor and Republican presidential candidate Bill Weld was in Sioux City today touring the Siouxland Community Health Center.

Weld told reporters he offers an economic conservative alternative to President Donald Trump.

I’d blow away the trillion-dollar deficit, so I’d be much more engaged with the world and with our allies, as people who are force multipliers and could help us to keep the peace and keep free trade an option for everybody.

Weld said the Siouxland Community Health Center and others like it that serve low-income patients should get more funding because they have a “real impact” in their communities.

South Dakota lawmakers are ready to work with Gov. Kristi Noem on industrial hemp legislation after she indicated she's ready to compromise.

Noem has staunchly opposed legalizing industrial hemp for nearly a year, but in a memo to legislators and a Facebook video,  she listed four regulations that need to be in an industrial hemp bill.

These include reliable enforcement standards, responsible regulations regarding licensing, reporting and inspections, an appropriate plan for safe transportation, and number four, an adequate funding plan.

Noem vetoed a bill to legalize industrial hemp during the 2019 session because it didn't address her concerns about public safety, law enforcement or funding. She says since then federal guidelines have been put in place.  The South Dakota legislature begins work on Monday.
