Rain and hail could threaten Sioux City-area Fourth of July celebrations tomorrow, despite earlier predictions of dry weather.
A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says strong winds and hail are possible tomorrow night with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. He said the Sioux City area will be in a "pattern" of thunderstorms over the next several days.
The NWS says there is a 40 percent tomorrow night, with a 60 percent chance of showers Friday.
This is one of the busiest weeks for one of the top summer attractions in Siouxland.
The 4TH of July holiday brings a big crowd to Arnold’s Park Amusement Park in the Iowa Great Lakes, including Sarah Aukes (ah-cuss) and her family from Sioux Center, Iowa.
"My kids are six and two and their eyes lit up when they came in, they love it. It’s a historical place. It’s lots of fun to bring the kids and let them see the old rides. It brings back memories when I was a kid. I liked the log ride and roller coaster, but I’m afraid to go on it now.”
This summer there are a few new things going on at this park. The new Roof Garden opens in August and a new ride, the Wild Mouse opens soon.
“You get into a car you kind of come to the edge of the track. It feels like you go over the edge you turn quickly and you are safe.”
That’s Marketing Director of Arnold’s Park Paul Plumb. He says the most popular ride is the Legend Rollercoaster. Built in 1930, it’s one of the oldest wooden rollercoasters in the nation.
