Many Siouxlanders spent the day digging out from a winter storm that cancelled schools and dumped several inches of snow.

Others, especially kids decided to go sledding.

Spencer, Iowa saw the biggest amount at ten-and-a-half inches, Spirit Lake, eight inches and the Sioux Gateway Airport almost six inches.

Today’s sunny weather helped melt some of the snow on roads.

However, with temperatures falling well below freezing tonight could create slick conditions.

And, the Iowa DNR says a conservation officer and park ranger rescued three duck hunters who got caught in last night’s storm.

Their boat got stranded on West Blue Lake in Monona County.

The two battled snow, wind and the cold to get the group of hunters to shore.

A former care provider in Sioux City has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing from her clients.

Fifty-year-old Lisa Sembach-Preston was sentenced Tuesday. She’d pleaded guilty to two counts of dependent adult abuse and two counts of theft.

The judge also ordered her to repay nearly $85,000 to Crossroads of Western Iowa.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and a couple hundred supporters braved the elements last night to attend a town hall meeting at West Middle School in Sioux City.

Buttigieg says he is the candidate who can unite the county.

“I know there is a lot of what I call future former Republicans out there to who have had it with what is going on in this White House to at least consider crossing over.  We’re not going to agree on everything and I’m not going to pretend we will.  But, I want everyone who agrees with this movement to step in now.”

A new national poll shows Buttigieg surging into second place ahead of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.  Former Vice President Joe Biden came out on top of the poll released yesterday by Quinnipiac  University.

Bad weather, trade wars, and low commodity prices did not keep John Deere from having a good year.

Today, the company reported financial results for the fiscal year that ended in October, and it recorded the second highest net income in company history.

Sales for the year rose 5 per cent to 39.2 billion dollars, and net income jumped 37 per cent to 3.2 billion.

The company is predicting a lower net income for 2020.

And, the organizers of Iowa’s Ride announced overnight stops for the first ever bicycle ride coming up in July.

The route starts in Dubuque and travels east and includes the communities of Emmettsburg, Sheldon and ends in Rock Rapids.

The former management of RAGBRAI broke off to start Iowa’s Ride in response to what they called the mishandling of the Carson King controversy by the Des Moines Register.
