PM News 12.9.19: Wrong-Way Crash Update, Rural School Concerns, Sports Money and Wintry Weather

Authorities have arrested a Nebraska man they say drove the wrong-way on Interstate 29 in Woodbury County and crashed into another vehicle.

Witnesses say 32-year-old Nicholas Diediker of Concord collided with an SUV and continued driving in the wrong direction Saturday morning.

The driver of the SUV survived.

A Sioux City police officer reportedly spotted the pickup running into a concrete barrier before turning back northbound with its headlights off

The president of Nebraska's public-school teachers' union says she's hearing concerns from rural schools about a lack of mental health services and state equalization aid.  

Many schools are also concerned about retaining qualified teachers, particularly in rural areas.

The president of the Nebraska State Education Association President says she hopes to tackle those issues and others in the upcoming legislative session.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority has awarded the Sioux City Sports Commission $50,000.

The money will be used to for several upcoming sports events in the community.

The NAIA Volleyball National Championships just wrapped up over the weekend.  In March, Sioux City will host the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship.

It was a wintry starts for parts of Siouxland this morning.  Several rural school districts delayed the start of classes today.  Sioux City motorists experienced slick conditions this morning.  However, we dodged a major weather event.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning today for northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.

The cities of Duluth and Superior are still digging out from more than 20 inches of snow last weekend. And, they’re expecting another 10 inches then near-record cold temperatures.
