Siouxland travelers who fly out of Omaha’s Eppley Airfield are in for two years of parking changes that start this Thursday. Siouxland Public Media’s Mary Hartnett has more.

The Omaha World Herald reports that the surface lot north of the garage will close for public parking beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday. The adjacent canopy lot south of the terminal will also close.

Construction of the airport’s new parking garage just north of the existing structure begins next month.  Rental car services will be moved to the canopy lot. The airport will provide free shuttle service to and from the terminal for rental car customers. The construction project won’t affect the airport’s main six-level parking garage.

The new garage will have 3,000 spaces, with rental car parking on the first two levels and public parking on levels three through six. Eppley will fund the 89 million-dollar project with revenue bonds and cash reserves.

For Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.
