The Iowa Board of Medicine has taken action against a Sioux City plastic surgeon.

A hearing is scheduled for October surrounding Dr. Adam Smith.

The board alleges Dr. Smith failed to provide appropriate surgical care to seventeen patients between December of 2014 to September of 2017.

Jena Reyes of Sioux City tells Siouxland Public Media News she is one of those patients.

Reyes says she underwent a tummy tuck in August of 2017 to try and fix lower abdominal pain experienced after child birth.

“I started having complications immediately.”

Reyes says she looked disfigured after the procedure and then battled a major infection for several months.

“As a patient, please do your research on your doctor.  Do a background check, Google search, find out where they practiced before.  You can check.”

Dr. Adam Smith released this statement to Siouxland Public Media News:

The Iowa board of medicine is conducting their due diligence into alleged misconduct on my part as a result of a yet unknown source of information and I look forward to being able to defend my practice and my continued resolve to help my patients in the Siouxland area. I always have strived and continue to strive to provide the best possible l and most professional and compassionate care for all of my patients, and I am confident that at the end of this investigation I will be vindicated for these alleged issues.
