The National Weather Service is investigating a series of tornado that struck the state of Iowa last night.
However, the National Weather Service says many of the twisters were minor and only on the ground from one to two minutes, even thought there was a total of 15 tornado warnings across the state.
Anywhere between ten and 20 tornadoes touched down. Two caused damage near Iowa Falls and Montezuma.
Someone was hurt near Barnes City in Poweshiek County near central Iowa.
There were also reports of tornadoes east and north of Des Moines yesterday afternoon starting in Sac County, Iowa.
Interstate 29 is still shut down from Loveland to Crescent.. and south of Omaha from Pacific Junction all the way to the Missouri border.
Even though local authorities say there isn’t a major threat of flooding for the Sioux City metro area the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District says with the Missouri River expected to start falling on Saturday people should still be prepared to evacuate on a short notice as a precaution.
The Missouri River is expected to almost reach levels seen back in March, however since the ground is no longer frozen ground water levels continue to be high.
The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers plans to increase releases at Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, South Dakota on Saturday from 70,000 to 75,000 cubic feet per second.
Heavy rains are also causing issues with multiple discharges from sewer treatment plants and livestock facilities.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says livestock facilities have struggled to handle the manure all spring.
The DNR tries to help producers address the issue before it becomes a problem.
