Offutt Air Force Base

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill today laying the groundwork for the first statewide children’s mental health system.

The law directs the state’s mental health regions to come up with a plan to provide comprehensive services for children by April 2020.

Among other things they must give access to therapy, medication management, crisis response and inpatient treatment.

The Air Force is raising its cost estimate to $420 million to repair and replace structures damaged at Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base following severe flooding.

Air Force officials say about 60 structures must be demolished after Missouri River flooding in March. The buildings were destroyed by floodwaters up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) high, as well as a toxic sludge left behind when the waters receded.

The latest estimate is $70 million more than the initial estimate issued last month as part of a $4.9 billion federal funding request for disaster relief.

The Sioux City Farmers Market launched its 11thseason yesterday.

“We are a community event. Everyone who comes stays at least 40 minutes, they come with their kids it’s just a great place to gather.”

“We have 14 new vendors coming in this year.  Anything from fresh flowers, to bake goods and pork rinds and more ready-to-eat foods too.”

In all, more than 40 vendors plan to take part in this year’s outdoor destination.  You can hear more about the Farmers Market on Food for Thought Friday at noon on Siouxland Public Media. Becky Kempers is this weeks guest.
