Presidential candidate Joe Biden continues his tour across Iowa today with stops in Iowa City and Des Moines

The former vice president was in Cedar Rapids Tuesday where he told a group of a few hundred he wants to rebuild a crumbling middle class.

A new report says an April survey of business supply managers suggests there will be solid economic growth over the next three to six months in all three Siouxland states.

The report issued Wednesday says the Mid-America Business Conditions Index dropped to 55.9 last month from 58.2 in March. The February figure was 57.9.  A number over 50 shows growth.

Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey, and he says finding and hiring qualified workers remained the chief threat to the manufacturing economy for the region.

A bill that seeks to lower property taxes by raising Nebraska's sales tax, eliminating sales tax exemptions and boosting state aid to K-12 schools is headed to the full Legislature for debate.

Members of the tax-focused Revenue Committee voted 6-0 on Tuesday to advance the bill, with two senators abstaining. Lawmakers could begin debate on the measure as early as next Tuesday.

The vote follows a drawn-out dispute among committee members over who should benefit most. Some rural lawmakers say it doesn't do enough for farmers who have seen the largest property tax increases even though farm incomes have fallen in recent years.

It's also certain to face opposition from Gov. Pete Ricketts, who opposes any bill that lowers one tax by raising another.

A Sioux City school received a big honor when it comes to its computer science program.  Yesterday, Governor Kim Reynolds announced six schools will receive $50,000 grants through the Computer Science is Elementary project.  One school in our region receiving the award is the elementary school in Denison, Iowa.  The goal is to create opportunities for students and a statewide network of computer science expertise.

During the Future Ready Iowa STEM summit in Des Moines the principal at Loess Hills Elementary School in Sioux City officially received a grant for $50,000.  The Loess Hills Computer Programming School is the inspiration for the Computer Science is Elementary project and will serve as a resource for the project.

The project has a goal of 70 percent of the workforce having education or training beyond high school by the year 2025.

A meteorologist says there's not much risk of rainfall heavy enough to further raise the Mississippi River flood threat in eastern Iowa.

A temporary flood barrier failed in Davenport on Tuesday, submerging downtown blocks and forcing some people to seek shelter on rooftops. They later were evacuated by boats.

The river is expected to crest tonight or overnight at 22.4 feet in Davenport, short of the record crest of 22.6 feet set in July of 1993.
