Two people in northwest Iowa have died after a collision between a semitrailer and a pickup truck.
The crash happened yesterday afternoon =on U.S. Highway 71 on the north end of Spencer.
Authorities say pickup turned into the path of the semi.
The couple in the pickup have been identified as 85-year-old Patricia Juber and 86-year-old Harvey Juber.
They lived in Melvin. The semi driver and his passenger weren't injured.
A Colorado man who threw a cup of water on Iowa Congressman Steve King has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Blake Gibbins, of Lafayette, Colorado, had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault on a member of Congress.
Gibbins admitted he approached a table at a Fort Dodge restaurant last March and threw a cup of water at the Republican.
Gibbins' attorney has said Gibbins' actions were out of character and may have resulted from recent emotional pressure.
Gibbins was in Iowa for a family funeral when he approached King, and Gibbins had no criminal history.
Congressman King says he’s disappointed by the sentence and believes in stiffer penalties for people who commit crimes about members of Congress.
Two Sioux City women are being honored this weekend for their work with the Democratic party.
Penny Rosfjord and Teresa Wolff will be receiving awards from Emerge Iowa. Emerge Iowa is an organization that recuits, trains and provides a network for women who want to run for office.
The Emerge Iowa DAWN awards are scheduled to take place Sunday in Des Moines to commemorate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. Six Democratic women will be recognized at the event, including the two from Sioux City.
Rosfjord, will be presented with the Jo Ann Zimmerman Activist Award. Rosfjord is the chair for the 4th District of the Iowa Democratic Party’s State Central Committee. Zimmerman was the former Lt. Governor of Iowa.
Teresa Wolff is receiving the Barbara Boatwright Lifetime Achievement Award for being an ally for the next generation of female Democratic candidates. Boatwright was a long-time political activist.
Republican senators from four states that have seen severe flooding from the Missouri River are backing legislation that would require the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to change its management of the river to reduce flood risk.
The proposal would require the Corps to take steps to reduce flood risks along the lower Missouri River by changing the way it manages the dams and by strengthening levees along the river.
The proposal is backed by all the senators from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. Corps officials say flood protection remains their highest priority.
