Noon Newscast 11.26.19: Winter Storm, Mayor Pete, Pit Bulls and Holiday Parade

weather.gov

A winter storm warning kicked in today at noon for Siouxland.  The National Weather Service says parts of southeastern South Dakota, northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa could see 6 to 9 inches of snow with winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour.  Several schools canceled or are letting students out early today in anticipation of the storm.

As far as we know a town hall planned tonight in Sioux City with Democratic Candidate for President Pete Buttigieg is still on.  That’s according to his Iowa campaign leaders.  The event is scheduled for 6:30 at West Middle School.

Starting next month, people will be allowed to own pit bulls in Sioux City.

The Sioux City Council voted to repeal the 11-year-old ban.

Sioux City is also changing parts of its animal control code to put the responsibility of vicious animals on the owner. If a dog bites or attacks another animal or a person, the owner could be fined 100-to 750-dollars.

And, a big crowd packed downtown Sioux City for a festive event last night.

The Holiday Lighted Parade showcased dozens of brightly decked out floats and characters.

For many,  it’s an annual tradition;  including one mother who shared her thoughts with Siouxland Public Media along the parade route on Fourth Street.

“I think I came maybe seven or eight different years and this is the busiest year I have ever seen.  Who did you bring with you this year?  Bodie is almost three and he’s energetic and the candy isn’t helping.”
