The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for parts of Siouxland that could impact travel this Thanksgiving week.

Western Nebraska could see a foot of snow or more by Wednesday morning.

Sioux City and northwest Iowa will be under a Winter Storm Watch starting tomorrow morning.  The forecast calls for heavy snow with accumulations of 5 to 9 inches with high winds as well.

The winter storm warning includes the communities of Wayne and Norfork.

A 23-year-old Sioux City man has been charged with murder 15 months after the death of his girlfriend’s child.

Tayvon Davis is charged with first-degree murder, child endangerment resulting in death and multiple acts of child endangerment.

An autopsy showed the girl had several blunt force injuries to her head and a kidney and had suffered fractures to her vertebrae and ribs.

A northeast Nebraska man has been given four years in prison for locking two of his children in a bedroom and denying them food.

Fifty-five-year-old Patrick Henderson, of Wakefield,  pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse.

His wife, 43-year-old Angel Henderson, has pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of intentional child abuse resulting in injury.

Prosecutors say the Hendersons fed their 14-year-old boy and his 9-year-old sister only once a day and not at all if they failed to finish their schoolwork. The boy also told officials his mother would choke, kick and hit them.

Democratic Candidate for President , Julian Castro, visited Siouxland yesterday.  He made a stop in Storm Lake before arriving in Sioux City.  Castro met with members of the Siouxland Pride Alliance before an event at Morningside College last night.

Castro talked about a number of issues, including homelessness, that impacts a large number of young people in the LQBTQ community.

Castro, who use to serve as the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama says he plans to end homelessness for everyone by 2028.

 “We need see housing as a right, where everyone has a reasonable and affordable place to live.”

Castro also blasted President Trump by saying he is all about misinformation, fake information and misdirection and defended recent comments saying the Iowa Caucuses being first in the nation “doesn’t make sense.”
