NOON NEWS: Sioux City School Board Candidate Forum

League of Women Voters of Sioux City hosted a candidate forum for the six people running for four open seats on the Sioux City School Board.

Miyuki Nelson is the only current school board member in the election.

“I am currently serving on the board for one reason,  I want to make sure I made a difference that I make a difference through our kids by improving our community by their achievements.”

Juline Albert is Vice President of Learning at Western Iowa Tech Community College and has 27 years of educational experience.

“The creativity I have brought to my job at WIT, I will bring to serve the students of the Sioux City School District.”

Shaun Broyhill is a senior software engineer who launched his own foundation.

“I have been focused on education, particularly during the last 20 years. I have given quite a bit back to my community.  I personally provided over a $100,000 worth of funding, product services for a computer lab for the Boys and Girls Club in Sioux City.

Taylor Goodvin is a business operations analyst and former staff member for Senator Grassley and previous Director of the Woodbury County Taxpayers Research Conference.

“I really want to give back.  My personal and professional background, bode well for me being here.”

Dan Greenwell owns an information technology business and is a former executive with Terra and Sabre Industries.

“I have a passionate interest in public education.  Some of you may know I am actively involved in attending school board meeting, speaking up and doing fundamental work with the distraction.

And, finally Monique Scarlett has worked in banking for 20 years and is founder of Unity in the Community.

“I am passionate about our district.  I want it to be the best it can be.  I am the candidate of choice that will bring collaboration which will enhance student success, educator involvement and, the community connection.”

The election takes place on November 5st.  On, the Friday before the election, November 1st listen at noon on Siouxland Public Media for another forum with the contenders for school board.
