Nebraska State Patrol

The investigation continues into a deadly officer-involved shooting over the weekend in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol is in charge of the investigation into the incident outside Los Amigos, a bar and liquor store on Dakota Avenue around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

The Sioux City Journal identifies the injured officer as Brian Van Berkum.  He has been with the South Sioux City Police force for about 19 years.

Someone had reported seeing a person with a firearm.  Police say officer Van Berkum arrived on the scene, confronted the man and the two exchanged gunfire.  The armed man died a short time after the shooting.  His fiancé identified him as 26-year-old Luis Quinones of South Sioux City.

Officials say a dog disease that can be passed to humans has been confirmed in Iowa.

The state veterinarian says several cases of canine brucellosis have been confirmed at a commercial breeding facility for small dogs in Marion County.

Signs of the disease in a dog include infertility, spontaneous abortions and stillbirths. State health officials say symptoms for humans include fever, sweats, headache, joint pain and weakness.

The department says the threat to most pet owners is very low.

The Omaha Airport Authority is preparing to move forward with a $500 million reconstruction of Eppley Airfield.

The project to rebuild the terminal within five years would overhaul its concourse, airline gates, security checkpoints, ticket counters and baggage claim.

The Airport Authority is working with contractors to create a preliminary design for the terminal by this fall.

The plans come as Eppley Airfield sees steady passenger growth and airline investments.

Airlines scheduled a record of more than 6 million seats to fly through Eppley last year.

They've also doubled the number of nonstop flights from the airport since 2013.
