The state board that oversees Iowa’s medical cannabis industry has declined to add any new conditions to the list of approved uses.

The Medical Cannabidiol Board today denied petitions to approve anxiety and schizophrenia. A decision whether to approve post-traumatic stress disorder was delayed until November.

MedPharm, the company that manufactures medical marijuana in Iowa is introducing a line of medical cannabis vapor products that will soon be available.  MedPharm has a dispensary in Sioux City.

MedPharm Iowa’s Lucas Nelson says this will give patients a new option. He told Radio Iowa that the vaping option could be helpful for those patients that suffer from things like ulcerative colitis and chron’s disease where they may not be able to absorb cannaboids that they swallow.  He says the vaporization allows for a quicker release of the product, and some of the people using the current pills and cremes may switch over to using the vaporized product. “ Vaping has gotten a lot of attention recently as a replacement for cigarette smoking.

We have project lifesaver right that deals with kids that have special needs or autism and we also have adults that have Alzheimer's or dementia in the program, so I figured it would be a great thing for Sioux City, and I tagged the chief on it right away and he told me to come to talk to him and right away Monday we got it started.

Sassman says the window clings are available at the Sioux City law enforcement center and at Opportunities Unlimited, Siouxland District Health, the Disability Resource Center and other local agencies.
