Nine New C-19 Cases in Woodbury County; A New Death in Dakota County

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is once again being asked to issue a face mask mandate. A coalition of health groups led by the Iowa Medical Society have sent the governor a letter, urging her to issue a statewide face mask mandate.  

Fifteen groups representing 12,000 health care providers signed onto the letter. The groups say widespread use of face coverings will slow the spread of the virus and save lives. 

Governor Reynolds has encouraged Iowans to “mask up,” but has resisted a statewide mandate.

The Siouxland District Health Department today has reported 9 new cases of COVID-19 in Woodbury County. The Iowa Department of Public Health, as of this morning  there are a total of 3,569 positive cases of COVID-19 in Woodbury county. The death toll remains at 47.

One more person has died from COVID-19 in the metro area, as the Dakota County Health Department reported the death today.

The age or gender of the Dakota County resident who died was not disclosed, and the number of deaths in the county now stands at 42.

The University of Iowa’s men’s basketball team paused workouts on Tuesday for 14 days in response to two of its players testing positive for COVID-19.

The positive test results came out yesterday.

The University of Iowa’s Athletic department is following its protocol and contact tracing procedures by pausing the workouts and isolating the players who tested positive.

Additionally, anyone who may have come in contact with the players will quarantine as well.
