MercyOne to Stop Providing Obstetrics Services Sept. 1

MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center has announced that it will discontinue obstetrics services effective Sept. 1, according a news release today.

The Sioux City hospital said in that the decision was made after a thorough review process and examination, and will allow MercyOne to make continued investments to expand other health care services and programs not currently offered in the region.

Iowa hit a new high today for new coronavirus cases in a 24-hour period.  830 new Coronavirus have been confirmed since yesterday morning. with a total 36, 886 cases.  There were 18 new deaths from the virus, which is the largest one-day total since June 2. 

In Woodbury County, there has been one new death due to COVID-19. The county’s coronavirus death toll is 46. It was the second day in a row Woodbury County recorded a COVID-19-related death. There were 14 new cases of the virus reported today in Woodbury County. There have been 3,391 cases so far. 

South Dakota reported 80 more cases reported today and two more deaths.  The state has a total of 7652 cases of coronavirus and 111 deaths. 

In Nebraska, there are 262 new cases of COVID 19 and five new deaths.  The state has a total of 21, 979 confirmed cases and 291 deaths.  Dakota County had four new cases of the virus today and two new deaths. 

The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska elected two new Tribal members in a Special Election on Wednesday.  Five candidates were on the ballot.  Lorelei Hope Decora and Brian Chamberlain won with about 26% of the votes each. 

The Special Election was held after the removal of two Tribal members. Tribal President Coly Brown said in a letter to Tribal Members posted on Facebook that they were removed because they failed to comply with mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
