Woodbury County residents will head to the polls March 3rd for a bond referendum to build a new law enforcement center and jail.
The board of supervisors has joined the city of Sioux City in signing off on that date. Now the city, the county and a joint jail authority they've created will launch a public information campaign. Chair Matthew Ung says people can bring their questions or concerns about the new jail to any board meeting and the supervisors will do their best to answer them until the vote on March 3, 2020.
Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew announced yesterday he will not seek re-election this year.
Drew will support Todd Wieck, a major in the sheriff's office, who is seeking the Republican Party nomination for sheriff in June.
For the first time, the Iowa Democratic Party will report three sets of results from its presidential caucuses. And there is no guarantee that all three will show the same winner.
Each set of results represents a different stage of voting in the caucus process. The new rules for the Feb. 3 contest were mandated by the Democratic National Committee in a bid to make the process more transparent.
South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson has delivered his final State of the Judiciary address in Pierre. The judge used his 19th speech to the Legislature to push for a court system that helps people address drug addiction and stay out of prison. He called drug addiction an “evil” that leads to crimes and requested funding from law enforcement for addiction treatment connected to drug and DUI courts.
