Iowans Could Lose Coverage if ACA is Repealed

About 230 thousand Iowans could lose health coverage in 2019 if the Affordable Care Act is repealed without an adequate replacement, according to a new report. Siouxland Public Media’s Mary has more.

The nonpartisan Iowa Policy Project produced the report for the Iowa Fiscal Partnership. It shows that the Affordable Care Act dramatically expanded health insurance coverage in Iowa.  Some 47,000 more individuals bought insurance with the help of subsidies from the ACA, and about 70,000 more Iowans obtained health insurance from Medicaid.” Families that were previously unable to afford health insurance could lose tax credits and affordable insurance if the ACA is repealed.  More Iowans would have to turn to hospitals and other health providers for uncompensated care. The number of uninsured Iowans dropped by nearly 93,000 in the first and second years of implementation of the ACA.  For Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.
