Iowa continues to see record numbers of coronavirus cases. Today the state reports more than 25 hundred new cases of COVID-19 and 85 additional deaths. So far, Iowa has a total of 2,603 coronavirus deaths. There are 1,000 people hospitalized. The 14-day statewide positivity rate is 16.6%.
The deaths of four Woodbury County residents attributed to COVID-19 were reported today, as well as 142 new cases.
Siouxland District Health says those who died include a woman in the 41 to 60 age range, two men in the 61 to 80 age range, and a man above age 81. there are 88 people hospitalized related to COVID 19 in Woodbury County. The county also has an 18.7% positivity rate. There are 88 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Woodbury County.
South Dakota today has 1 145 new cases and 38 additional deaths from the coronavirus for a total of 83,348 cases and 1,033 deaths. There are 538 people hospitalized.
Nebraska has an additional 1 371 cases and 42 other deaths today. The state has had more than 134,000 cases and 1,159 deaths. There are 845 people hospitalized.
The number of coronavirus cases continues to grow within Nebraska’s prison system.
Six staff members across the state’s system had tested positive for the virus, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said late Thursday in a news release. That’s in addition to another three infected staffers announced on Wednesday.
The infected staff members are isolating at their homes, the agency said, and officials plan to notify anyone who had been in close contact with them so they can also quarantine.
The latest cases bring the number of Nebraska prison staffers infected since the pandemic began to 356. Nearly 700 inmates had tested positive for the virus by late last week.
