Iowa Gov. Waiting on Ethanol Announcement from the White House

Ethanol producers and farmers are hoping for an agreement that will require some refineries to use more ethanol to make up for the waivers granted by the Trump administration. 

Governor Kim Reynolds says President Trump verbally agreed to a fix for his decision to exempt 31 refineries from blending ethanol into gasoline.  Reynolds hopes the President will make the announcement in Iowa. Ethanol producers and farmers are hoping for an agreement that will require some refineries to use more ethanol to make up for the waivers granted by the Trump administration. 

An Iowa law that prohibits Medicaid payment for gender reassignment surgery is the reason that California's attorney general has prohibited state-funded travel to Iowa.

Iowa and 10 other states are violating a 2017 California law that guards against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a bill in May reversing an Iowa Supreme Court ruling guaranteeing protection for Medicaid-funded gender reassignment surgery.

Reynolds said today that the law is a narrow provision clarifying longstanding state policy. A lawsuit challenging that law is now before the Iowa Supreme Court.

More than 200 scientists from 38 Iowa colleges and universities have signed on to a climate change statement that warns of "sobering extreme heat projections" for the Midwest that will put people, livestock and pets at risk.
