Iowa’s COVID-19 cases have increased steadily since late June, with the state adding 1,992 cases in a single day this week, according to New York Times data. That total, on Wednesday, was the highest the state has recorded since 2,478 cases on Jan. 6, as reported by Iowa Capital Dispatch. Daily gains were much more significant at other points in the pandemic. For example, in November, some days topped 4,000 cases.
Iowa’s daily average for COVID-19 cases rose 63% in the past two weeks, the Times reported. As recently as Aug. 13, that figure had been as high as 122%. But the daily spike this week could mean a surge.
Iowa’s unemployment rate was slightly higher in July. The rate is up .1 percent from four percent in June. The slight change is due in part to the number of people looking for work increasing. The unemployment rate was 6.1% one year ago. Iowa Workforce Development says the labor force participation rate increased to 66.9% compared to 66.6% in June.
Recreational vehicle and boat manufacturer Winnebago Industries is moving its corporate headquarters from Iowa to Minnesota, the company said in a statement.
Based in Forest City, Iowa, since its founding in 1958, the company said Thursday that the shift to Eden Prairie, Minnesota, will be effective Dec. 1.
