IA GOP Lawmakers Try to Limit IA AG's Actions To Oppose President Trump, SPM News, 12:04

Republican lawmakers in Iowa want to limit the powers of the state's attorney general, citing frustration that the Democrat joined lawsuits opposing the actions of President Donald Trump.

Attorney General Tom Miller joined six lawsuits in 2018 that aimed to obstruct Trump's policies, which included separating families of immigrants on the southern U.S. border and requiring additional citizenship information on the 2020 census.

Miller's office was also involved in 26 amicus briefs and 50 letters to federal agencies opposing the Trump administration's actions.

With the legislative session more than two-thirds over, Nebraska lawmakers are getting ready to confront some of the biggest issues they'll face this year, including the state budget, a contentious property tax plan, and a longshot attempt to repeal the death penalty.

All the proposals are set for debate in the full Legislature between now and the session's final scheduled day on June 6The federal Natural Resources Conversation Service is providing money to plant cover crops on damaged farmland.

The aid is aimed at recovery work on cropland directly affected by the severe weather in March. The highest priority cropland includes land that can't be planted with a cash crop and/or can't be harvested this year.
