Traffic still being diverted on Interstate 29 near Wesley Parkway. A fire broke out this afternoon near an interchange and that caused the closure. Sioux City Fire Rescue is on the scene of the fire.
The Iowa Department of Transportation says traffic is being diverted near the I-29 exits at mile markers 147 and 148 in Sioux City.
An IDOT official says at 3:30 p.m. a fire took place under the primary northbound I-29 lane over Perry Creek.
Members of the Iowa House and Senate met today (Wednesday) to hear the basics of how state tax credits work.
The study committee was created to propose changes to the legislature.
It was the first meeting of the Tax Credit Review Committee — two years after the legislature passed a law calling for a comprehensive look at the state’s programs. Republican Representative Pat Grassley of New Hartford is a committee member and Speaker-Select of the House. He says some credits are decades old and it’s hard to know how they’ll impact the budget from year to year.
We want to show that we’re trying to make sure we’re modernizing these tax credits, that we’re getting value in our tax credit. I think that’s something that we need to be looking at.
But Grassley cautioned that any changes to tax credits will be hard to pass because he expects strong opposition from interest groups.
Representative Chris Hall, a Democrat from Sioux City, is also part of the committee. Hall says tax cuts into revenue that could go toward education or health care.
We need to give serious attention to it and we can’t just say an introduction to the topic is good enough.
