FEMA has approved 12 million dollars in payments to people recovering from Iowa floods, and more than 1,800 people have registered with the agency for help. Those are the latest numbers reported today (Thursday) to the governor’s flood recovery board.
The FEMA money includes home rebuilding grants and rental assistance. Governor Kim Reynolds says those numbers will climb once the Davenport area is added to the federal disaster declaration.

The federal Small Business Administration is also approving loans to flooded homeowners and businesses.
High school graduates need to get involved in civic life, that’s according to former South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard. The former Republican governor was in Sioux City today speaking to Bishop Heelan High School seniors. He told students about his life as governor and what it took to succeed in the job. Daugaard says students should get involved in the civic process.

“Volunteer for a campaign, become a page in the legislative session, or intern for the governor’s office or for the mayor the mayor, and get a sense of what it’s like to be in elective office.”
Daugaard served as the governor of South Dakota from 2011 to 2019. He had to step down because of term limits. Former US Representative Kristy Noem became the first female governor of South Dakota earlier this year.
