Dem Presidential Candidates Visit NW Iowa This Weekend, Reynolds on Japanese Trade Trip

110819 304

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar,  and Colorado Senator Michael Bennet will make appearances in northwest Iowa today and tomorrow.

Unlike many of the Democratic candidates, Bennet does not oppose a wall on the border with Mexico if it is part of the larger, modern immigration system.  He wrote an immigration bill in 2013 with a similar suggestion.

It had 46 billion dollars in border security, not the six billion that Donald Trump wants for a centuries-old technology, but 21st-century technology. It would allow us to see every inch of the border, and who was coming across

Bennet would also like to see a path to citizenship for the DACA “Dreamers.”

Bennet also differs from some of the Democratic candidates in that he doesn’t think dismantling private insurance would work.

Bennet will speak with education members of the Iowa State Education Association this afternoon at 4:30 at Hardline Coffee in downtown Sioux City.  And he will meet with Woodbury County caucus-goers at 5:30 at Jackson Street Brewing.

Minnesota US Senator Amy Klobuchar (D)

Amy Klobuchar will appear tonight in Orange City and attend a caucus planning meeting tomorrow morning at the Sioux City Public Library. And Bernie Sanders will meet with citizens in Orange City on Sunday.

Vermont US Senator Bernie Sanders (D)

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds left early this morning on a trade mission to Japan.

Reynolds will encourage more direct investment in Iowa by Japanese businesses.

The Trump administration recently signed a free trade agreement with Japan.
