Dem Presidental Candidate Tim Ryan Visits Sioux City, 4:32

070219 432

Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan stopped in Sioux City this morning in his quest to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

He talked about his major plan to get back to fundamentals and improve the quality of life for young people in the country.

“What do we have to do in the United States to be competitive, to lift people up to rebuild the middle class?   Invest in our people to make sure that every one of our citizens is on the field healthy, educated, creative, resilient and ready to go out and help us win the future.”

Congressman Ryan is proposing spending $50 billion on social and emotional learning for children in schools.  He also wants to bring back vocational education.  He says people need to work in a career that they love.  And, he says teachers need support.

“And, I know our teachers are burned out.  And, I know our teachers are blamed and shamed for every problem that our society has today .//  “ I don’t think it’s appropriate for our teachers to march in the streets to try and get some dignity.  Most of the time it’s not for themselves, most of the time it’s not for wages and benefits but for the climate of the school.  It’s for the lack of investment for the kids.”

Congressman Ryan says he plans to return to Siouxland in the near future.  He says he has seen a boost in his campaign after the debate last week.  A few dozen people attended today’s event at Hardline Coffee in downtown Sioux City.

Two other Democratic candidates will be in Sioux City this week.  South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and California Senator Kamala Harris.  Listen for an extended interview with Congressman Ryan at 4:44 p.m. during all things considered.
