Check It Out: Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

This is Jorge and you are listening to Check It Out.

Need a book report done? Well todays book recommendation is for you. Today I am recommending Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. A book for any age student and winner of the Kid’s Choice Award for Favorite book and Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award. This book will not disappoint and is a must read. We are introduced to the main character Greg Heffley, your typical middle school student while also being introduced to his older and much meaner brother Rodrick and younger, spoiled brother Manny. Now Greg doesn’t do much with his life but plays video games all day and his father Frank does not approve of this non-sport related lifestyle. School starts and sixth grader Greg Heffley is forced to sit with the school nerd Fregley. But he tries his best to keep his distance from him. His main friend is named Rowley, which he deems “immature” and doesn’t know if he will be able to fit in. These two friends’ first year of middle school is filled with many eventful events and Greg records each entry in his diary through words and pictures describing each event as best as a middle schooler can. From being chased during Halloween to a mysterious “cheese touch,” there is so much that happens. But one incident would test the strength of Greg and Rowley’s friendship. Instead of chapters, the book is read like you are reading Greg Heffley’s own diary filled with drawings, words and action from the first year of middle school. Check out the first book of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney as well as the other entries in the series at the Sioux City Public Library and remember, don’t get the “cheese touch.”
