Catholic Globe Editor Joanne Fox Says Goodbye

101119 404

The state is asking a Polk County judge to dismiss a second lawsuit challenging recent changes to the process for selecting Iowa Supreme Court justices and appeals court judges.

Attorney Bob Rush argues this challenge is different from the first. His client Thomas Duff applied to be an appeals court judge, but the nominating commission in its new form didn’t choose Duff as a finalist.

Assistant Attorney General David Rantsch (RANCH) says that doesn’t prove Duff is adversely affected by the law.

Voiding the law doesn’t make Mr. Duff a judge. Restoring the commission doesn’t make Mr. Duff a nominee. Restoring the commission doesn’t make Mr. Duff a judge.

The original legal challenge of the new law is expected to be heard by the Court of Appeals next month.

Today, the Diocese of Sioux City will honor the editor of the Catholic Globe Newspaper. Joanne Fox is retiring after a long career in journalism and communications.

It’s draw-dropping all of the changes over the last 45 years.

Fox started as a reporter at the Globe back in 1974 and spent almost 20 years there before working for the Sioux City Journal and even taught at Western Iowa Tech Community College for 16 years before returning to the Globe as editor six-years ago.

Bishop Walker Nickless says Fox is an inspiration.

We will always be thankful to be grateful for her gifts. The talents God gave her she used.  I like to see that in everybody.

An open house is planned for Fox this afternoon at the Central Catholic Offices in Sioux City from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

During “All Things Considered” at 5:44 we’ll hear from Joanne Fox about all of the changes in journalism over the years.
