One of summer’s biggest event has been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Sioux City Art Center on Wednesday announced the 27th annual ArtSplash art festival will not take happen this Labor Day Weekend.

Art Center Director Todd Behrens says they look forward to bringing the festival back in 2021 with some exciting changes.  The Art Center plans to hold a “virtual” Artsplash instead on Facebook.

The event is scheduled for September 4 and 5, 2021.

The Art Center is now open to the public.  Initially, only the first-floor galleries will be open, except for the Junior League Hands On! Gallery.  It will be closed.  Masks are strongly encouraged and social distancing is required.

Also, a water warning for a community in Buena Vista County. The Iowa DNR reports the city of Newell issued a “do not use” water advisory due to possible mercury contamination.  The city’s water supply operator noticed what appeared to be a small amount of mercury in a wastewater drain at the city’s treatment plant Wednesday morning.  The DNR recommends people use an alternative source until the city figures out the source of the mercury.
