The University of Iowa Labor Center was scheduled to close in June. However, it survived when the Board of Regents voted to keep it open. The closure of this building wasn't the only one. Seven UI centers were to be closed because of a budget cut by the state.
Jen Sherer, UI Labor Center Director, claims many supporters spoke out against the closure because the center had an impact on their communities and careers. Many members of these communities said the center helped shape leaders and allow their workplaces to become more fair.
