Ernst Veterans Care Bill Becomes Law

President Obama has signed into law a program aimed at improving care and reducing wait times at Veteran’s Administration Clinics.  It was co-sponsored by Iowa Republican Senator and veteran Joni Ernst.  Siouxland Public Media’s Mary Hartnett reports.A 2014 federal audit showed that veterans often wait at least 90 days for appointments for health care or never received appointments.

The bipartisan Faster Care for Veterans Act directs the Secretary of the VA to start a pilot program under which veterans could use the internet to schedule and confirm appointments for health care.  U.S. Senators and Joni Ernst (R-IA) Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) sponsored the bipartisan bill that would establish a patient self-scheduling appointment system at Veterans Affairs Medical Facilities.   For Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.
